Solar panels

Solar panel subsidies in Luxembourg 2026: up to 10.000 € from the Klimabonus

The state pays a formula-based amount for solar panels used for your own consumption, up to 10.000 € from 15 kWp, plus up to 2.250 € for a battery. What a typical system gets, the conditions, and the steps.

The short version

  • The aid follows a formula: 5.742 € for 6 kWp, 8.250 € for 10 kWp, and 10.000 € from 15 kWp.
  • A battery gets up to 2.250 €: about 1.806 € for 5 kWh of usable capacity, the maximum from 9 kWh.
  • The system must run in self-consumption: you give up the regulated feed-in tariff but can still sell surplus electricity at market price.
  • Supply and installation on a private home are invoiced at 3 % VAT, and from 1 January 2027 the installer can deduct the aid from the invoice.

How much the state pays

For a system below 15 kWp, the aid is P × (1.155 − 1.155/35 × P) euros, where P is the peak power in kW to two decimals. From 15 kWp the aid is fixed at 10.000 €. The amount grows more slowly with each extra kWp, so the aid per kWp is highest on small systems.

Battery

For a battery below 9 kWh of usable capacity, the aid is Q × (500 − 500/18 × Q) euros, where Q is the usable capacity in kWh. From 9 kWh it is fixed at 2.250 €.

A home energy management system that steers the panels, battery, heat pump or charging station gets 500 €, for invoices from 1 October 2026.

Conditions

  • Self-consumption: the system runs in self-consumption mode and you expressly give up the regulated feed-in tariff. You can still feed surplus electricity into the grid and sell it at market price.
  • Size: at least 2 kWp. In an apartment building, more than 1,5 kWp per private unit.
  • Mounting: on the roof or facade of the building, or built into the building envelope. Hybrid collectors that produce hot water and electricity count as solar panels.
  • Battery: at least 2 kWh, connected to a solar system in self-consumption. A battery for an existing system is eligible too. A further battery for the same system is only eligible 5 years after the last subsidised one.
  • Dates: the invoice must be dated between 4 January 2026 and 31 December 2029, or up to 31 December 2031 if the system was ordered by the end of 2029. Applications close on 31 December 2031.
From quote to aid
  1. Compare quotesCompare the peak power in kWp, the battery’s usable capacity in kWh, the mounting, and how the system is set up for self-consumption.
  2. Sign the orderIf you want the aid deducted from the invoice, do not pay a deposit of more than 30 % of the final price including VAT.
  3. InstallationThe panels go on the roof or facade, or are built into the building envelope. The invoice must be dated between 4 January 2026 and 31 December 2029.
  4. AidEither the installer deducts it from the invoice (pre-financing), or you apply to the Guichet unique des aides au logement after the invoice, by 31 December 2031 at the latest.

Pre-financing: the aid deducted from the invoice

Pre-financing is optional. A company listed in the register of intermediary applicants files the application through MyGuichet.lu and passes the full aid on to you as a lower price. The current pre-financing scheme moves into the Klimabonus 2026 on 1 January 2027. It does not apply to a system financed by leasing, when you paid a deposit of more than 30 % of the final price including VAT, or to a battery added to an existing system: those go through the standard application after the invoice. You cannot file two applications for the same system.

Commune top-ups

Many communes add their own aid for solar panels, either a share of the state aid or a fixed amount, with a cap that differs from one commune to the next. Far fewer communes pay anything for a battery. Many regulations cap state and commune aid together at 100 % of the cost, and most expect the commune application within six to twelve months of the state's decision. Klima-Agence's aid simulator shows the amounts for your commune.

3 % VAT

The supply and installation of solar panels on private housing are directly subject to the super-reduced 3 % VAT rate, so the installer invoices 3 % from the start.

What to ask for in your quotes

  • The peak power in kWp and, for a battery, the usable capacity in kWh: both set the aid.
  • How the system is set up for self-consumption, and what happens to surplus electricity.
  • Whether the installer offers pre-financing, and a deposit of no more than 30 % if you want it.
  • Separate lines for panels, inverter, battery, mounting and electrical work.

Questions

How much aid does a 6 kWp system get?

5.742 €: 6 × (1.155 − 1.155/35 × 6) = 6 × 957 euros. A 10 kWp system gets 8.250 €.

Can I still sell my surplus electricity?

Yes, at market price. What you give up is the regulated feed-in tariff: the Klimabonus requires self-consumption and an express waiver of that tariff.

Is a battery for an existing solar system subsidised?

Yes, if it has at least 2 kWh of usable capacity and is connected to a system in self-consumption. You apply after the invoice; pre-financing does not cover this case.

Can the installer deduct the aid from the invoice?

Yes, through pre-financing, if the installer or another company is listed in the register of intermediary applicants. It is excluded for leasing and when the deposit is above 30 % of the final price including VAT.

Is the aid available in an apartment building?

Yes. The system must exceed 1,5 kWp per private unit, and the co-owners apply together.
